For the first time, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at Blue Cross Arena for a space themed extravaganza featuring movie music masterpieces from 2001: A Space Odyssey, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Alien, and Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. This event includes laser light show, futuristic video wall, performances by Rochester City Ballet and aerialists Troupe Vertigo.

Enjoy the eclipse at the Memorial Art Gallery, including the MAG’s outdoor sculpture park. Expect eclipse merch, live music, and more. The RMSC will be celebrating the total solar eclipse with a three-day festival, ROC The Eclipse, filled with hands-on activities, speakers, live entertainment, eclipse merch, food trucks, and more. Activities include continuous showings of “Eclipse 2024!” at the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium, Electricity Theater shows, solar telescope viewing, Science on a Sphere 3D, science experiments, and more.

Join The Strong National Museum of Play for a week-long eclipse celebration looking at space through the lens of play. See displays of space-themed toys including giant toy rockets, Astronaut Barbie, and more. You can even make your own paper rocket to launch!

The museum’s three-day program, Focus, Click, Totality!  includes eclipse-related photographs and pinhole cameras from the museum’s collection, eclipse-themed live organ music, eclipse-themed films screened in the museum’s historic Dryden Theatre, and the opportunity to make pinhole cameras and sun prints in the hands-on Discovery Room.

People of all abilities are welcome. 

 

Pro Tips: Eclipse glasses are crucial for safe viewing as it can be dangerous to look at the sun without appropriate eye protection. Be sure to use certified solar viewing glasses to directly view the eclipse. Additionally, if you plan to use any devices such as cameras, binoculars, or telescopes to view the eclipse make sure that you have appropriate solar filters for them.
